Why God Allows us to be Weak: A Reflection on David and Goliath
When You Feel Weak
Sometimes we wonder: “Why doesn’t God just take away my weakness?”
The truth is—God allows us to experience weakness so we’ll learn to rely more on Him, and less on ourselves.
Look at David.
When he stepped up to fight Goliath, he wasn’t the biggest, strongest, or most equipped. He was a young shepherd with no armor, no sword—just a sling, a few stones, and total confidence that God was with him.
Everyone around him doubted. Saul said, “You can’t do this—you’re just a boy.” Goliath laughed and mocked him. But David stood firm and said, “I’m not alone. God is with me.”
And that’s the point.
God doesn’t wait until we feel strong to move in our lives. He moves through our weakness—so that His strength is what shines.
If we had it all together, we might forget we need Him. But our weakness humbles us. It reminds us to depend on His power, not our own.
So if you’re feeling weak, you’re in good company. You’re exactly where God can work.
God uses weakness to show His strength.
This was the heart of my homily this morning, and I wanted to share it with you here. God uses weakness to show His strength.
